Shopping for a lift chair, you will hit the motor question within about ninety seconds. Single motor, dual motor, sometimes three or four. The listings tell you the number and leave you to work out what it buys you.
Here is the short answer. A dual motor lift chair lets you move the footrest and the backrest separately. A single motor moves them together on a fixed path. That one difference decides how the chair feels to live in.

When A Single Motor Is Genuinely Enough
Plenty of retailers will steer you to dual regardless. That is not honest, because there are real situations where the simpler chair is the better buy.

The sensible middle is to ask the question rather than skip it. If standing is becoming harder but is still possible, it is worth speaking to a doctor, physiotherapist or occupational therapist first, because strength work may belong alongside the chair rather than the chair replacing it.
